Mode of action

The pyrethroid active (permethrin) binds to and delays the closure of voltage-gated sodium channels on the insect nerve membrane, holding them open so nerve impulses fire repetitively. Insects undergo hyper-excitation, paralysis and rapid knockdown, followed by death. Pyrethroids combine extremely fast knockdown with low mammalian toxicity at household-use rates, which is why they are the dominant chemistry in domestic insect control.
