Mode of action

The sodium salt dissociates in the spray tank to the 2,4-D anion, which is taken up by leaves and roots and translocated to meristematic tissue. Acting as a synthetic auxin it triggers unregulated cell division and elongation, causing stem twisting, leaf malformation, vascular collapse and death of susceptible broadleaf plants. Grass crops detoxify 2,4-D rapidly and remain unaffected.
